Quick Asian beef noodle soup

Quick Asian beef noodle soup

Right so if 20-minute meals weren’t enough I’m now tackling these 10-minute ones from Jamie’s new iPhone app, Jamie’s Recipes.

So can you cook it in 10-minutes? Not likely, the only way to achieve many of them is to have some ingredients pre-cooked, but to be fair the recipe does state ‘pre-cooked’ noodles, so it is kind of crafty… I’ll let it slide, but I’m onto you Mr. Oliver…

As I’ve learned from the previous challenge, preparation is the key to efficient cooking. Take the time to read the recipe through, collect all your ingredients, get your chopping board secured and any utensils you might need.

The meal is largely bulked up by the noodles and steak, leaving you very full afterward and being somewhat light on the greens, a vegetarians worst nightmare.

I decided to cook my own noodles since pre-cooked noodles are somewhat of a rarity at the average run of the mill supermarket and after the HOURS it took to make the smoked pork dish an extra 7 minutes for the noodles was hardly a chore.

The steak was seared whole, drizzled with some olive oil and seasoned with five-spice powder and then set to one side.

The noodles were added to a pot of stock with some frozen peas, ginger and chilli.

The greens consist of some fresh baby or English spinach, tossed with some mint and coriander and a splash of sesame seed oil.

Once prepared the soup/noddles and greens were divided up between 2 bowls, the beef slices added and garnished with a mix of various bean sprouts.

Overall a delicious dish and one I could see myself cooking again if pinched for time… and had more than 10-minutes to spare…

I have quite a few of JO’s books, watched a nauseating number of his cooking shows over the years (lived in the UK.. U can’t not see it) and even have the iPhone app u talk of above, and… Well, I know of only ONE recipe I have made more than once, and that is tomato sauce for pizzas! :-) That said, I think we learn a lot of improvisation from our Jamie… So we maybe don’t need to look at them every time?
Love reading about your cooking.. :-)

    Hi Retha,

Thanks so much for stopping by and saying ‘Hi!’. I must say I do enjoy following the recipes, after a long day looking after my son sometimes it is the only thing that helps me get through preparing dinner, buy the ingredients, follow the steps, presto, dinner, Hah Hah! That said I’m learning to experiment more and when trying a recipe the 2nd time around I’m changing things here and there to see the difference it makes.

    Cheers

    Matt

I have the app and cooked this recipe. I absolutely loved it! Trouble is, when I updated the app a bunch of new recipes wiped this one out. I don’t suppose you still have it? I can’t find it on Jamie’s website and I really want to cook it again.

    Hi Haidee,

It’s still on my phone and I’m pretty up to date, it should be in the ’10 minute meals’ recipe library in Jamie’s Recipes app.

    Cheers

    Matt
